Interview Skills

Valuable tips for gathering and using quotes

Course Summary

Whatever you're writing or presenting, you want your work to stand out from what others are saying on the same topic. Learn to do so by acquiring the basic skills for interviewing people and adding quotes, which bring life to every topic.

There's no need to feel shy about the interview process. True, some of us are natural question-askers, but with great preparation and some practice, you will feel comfortable asking all types of questions — gathering quotes that will make what you create so much more interesting and increase engagement with your every word.

Course Curriculum

Diane McDougall

Course creator, lifelong journalist and editor

I learned my own interview skills the hard way: trial-and-error while on the job as a journalist for an international nonprofit. I can't tell you how many times I forgot to turn on the recorder, or embarrassed myself while listening to my taped interviews — realizing I'd not been prepared enough.

My goal with this short training is to help you avoid some of the most common mistakes while also feel confident before each and every interview.

Truly, my journalism degree helped. But nothing beats the actual practice of conducting interviews. Together, let's learn the art and science of this important skill so that you can add emotion and energy to everything you write.
